M-I: WG1- Ionospheric Plasmas in the Magnetosphere- (Session 1 - Peterson and Moore) - Monday 10:30 AM

Discussions on the role of magnetospheric plasmas in the magnetosphere to help identify goals for this newly organized working group. We have asked several people (listed below) to make short presentations about the current state of our understanding of data and models. Contributions from the floor, particularly about using remote observations to infer ionosphere plasmas are solicited.

M-I Campaign on Magnetosphere-Ionosphere Coupling

WG2: Electrodynamics of M-I Coupling - Co-Chairs: Brian Anderson, Bill Lotko

Meeting Times: Mon, Jun 19, 3:45-5:30 and Wed, Jun 21, 1:30-2:30

GEM workshop participants are invited to contribute to the M-I Coupling WG2 on Electrodynamics of M-I Coupling. This year's sessions for WG2 will be structured around the 4 themes detailed below. Our objective is to identify major problem areas involving electrodynamics of M-I coupling where further progress is needed to improve GGCM modeling capabilities and the observational inputs for and diagnosis of such models. We would like to recommend specific projects that the M-I coupling campaign should target.

The sessions will consist of informal, open discussions led by selected researchers on the topics listed below:

(1) Dayside Electrodynamic Transients (led by E. Zesta);

(2) The Role of Ionospheric Conductivity in Governing M-I Coupling

Electrodynamics (led by B. Anderson);

(3) Impacts of Auroral Acceleration on the Electrodynamics of M-I

Coupling (led by J. Borovsky);

(4) What Electrodynamic Elements of M-I Coupling are Missing in Existing

GGCM/GMHD models? (led by M. Heinemann)
